Property prices in New York are rising at an alarming rate. Residents, especially young professionals, end up sinking thousands of dollars a month into rent. Stake set out to change this by giving renters a return on their monthly payments.
In my position as head of product at Archbolt, I managed the execution of the entire Stake platform, including the v1.0 marketing site, iOS application, and Android application.
Stake approached Archbolt with designs they had prepared for the smartphone app (both iOS and Android) as well as for the landing page. The landing page was a single page with a rental calculator and a questionnaire flow. For v1.0 of the mobile apps, there was a straightforward user interface with an admin panel for administration of the service. Sign in was handled using a phone number and one-time password (OTP). Once signed in, a user could use Face-ID (iOS only), a fingerprint scanner, or a numerical PIN to secure their account. Both the Android and iOS apps leveraged Intercom for customer service management. The admin panel provided basic user management, as well as the ability for Stake to manage withdrawal requests. For v2.0, the app was updated to include a dynamic visualization of the funds a user had saved, as well as a lighter interface.
Stake continues to operate in beta. They are growing in terms of buildings service, and are seeing growth in user adoption. The concept of “return on rent” clearly appeals to NYC renters.
